About Berluto

About us
Berluto Armaturen-GmbH

Berluto Armaturen-GmbH is a medium-sized manufacturer of high-quality control valves for use in buildings and industrial applications. The company can look back on more than 100 years of tradition and is currently managed by the fourth generation.

A broad product range — pressure reducing valves, float valves and relief valves — and with a sophisticated modular system enable us to supply the right valve for almost every application. All Berluto industrial valves are manufactured at our production site in Tönisvorst on the Lower Rhine using high-quality materials such as red bronze, brass and stainless steel. Computer-aided development methods with direct CAD/CAM connection to CNC machining centres allow flexible production with consistently high precision and short lead times.

At the end of the production chain, computer-controlled testing systems ensure one hundred percent functional testing and quality of the finished valves. Additional to these development and manufacturing methods, our employees have preserved one very special Berluto characteristic: attention to detail and dedication to first-class craftsmanship. This allows us to manufacture large valve series as well as special valves tailored precisely to customer requirements with consistently high quality.

Our customers benefit from more than 100 years of expertise in the development, design and manufacture of pressure reducing valves, relief valves and float valves.

Our history

1917
A brilliant idea

A brilliant idea

Because Düsseldorf-based installer Jean Bergner was frustrated by the unreliability of the float valves commonly used at the time for toilet cisterns, he set about finding a new solution — and he did. On July 31, 1917, he received the German Reich patent for his particularly robust and reliable design of a new type of float valve.

To produce and market his invention, Bergner founded “Berluto Schwimmerhahngesellschaft Ludwig & Co.” in 1920 together with the merchant Ludwig and the installer Toeller. The company name was formed from the first syllables of the founders’ surnames.

Foundation of a public company and expansion

In 1924, “Berluto Armaturen-Aktiengesellschaft” was established under the chairmanship of August Bender. Its shareholders were installers from the Cologne-Düsseldorf region. The company quickly acquired the nickname “Rheinisches Armaturenwerk”. Its product range mainly included float valves and floats, flushing cisterns, flush valves and tapping fittings.

The AG was converted into today’s GmbH, and in the following years the product range was expanded to include safety valves, pressure reducing valves and filters.

In 1977, the company headquarters were moved to Tönisvorst, where Berluto had built its own valve factory.
